Happy May, LAVMC members!

Our April meeting started with some delicious food prepared by the Inness and Bennett families.  We were served BBQ baby back ribs that were cooked perfectly along with some delicious sides.  This upcoming month’s dinner will be pizza provided by the Soderquists; I know I personally always look forward to a pizza party.

This last month, we started our general membership meeting with a wonderful presentation by Sleep in Heavenly Peace non-profit, specifically the North Santa Barbara County chapter.  This non-profit plans to take one day each month to work with volunteers to build 60 beds for children who don’t have a bed to sleep on,  each build month the materials cost $16k (~$250/ bed).  They fund these efforts through donations, both independently and through organizations.  Our club voted to initially donate $1,000 to the local chapter to go towards providing beds.

Our annual Spring Fling event was a huge success, and we could not have made it possible without the help and support of so many members of our club and community.   182 reverse draw tickets were sold this year, and we had a huge turnout this year with more than 200 people.  Wondering what we raised? You will have to come find out at our May Membership meeting!  In the meantime, congratulations to the Reverse Draw winners, Rita McBride and Glen Rubsamen!

This Saturday, May 18th, there are a few community events in town that I would like to mention.  The annual town-wide garage sale is from 8 am to 1 pm.  The map will be available at the post office on Friday.  Additionally, a BBQ Charity event is being held from 11 am to 3 pm in support of Collin’s Market at the Depot Bar.  This fundraiser is being held as they have been broken into twice recently.

We will be meeting on Thursday,  May 17th for our monthly membership meeting. Same time and place as always; doors will open at 5:30, dinner will be at 6:15, and the meeting will start at 7 pm.

This month’s Bingo will be an Old Days Bingo! It will be held on May 17 at the club.  Pre-sale tickets are available by contacting Shirley at (805) 478-0789 and will include 15 games with a Whiskey Bent BBQ sammy and chips! Support our efforts to keep Old Days on Bell AND have a fun night out,  the perfect combination!

We are also looking for Old Days Sponsors this year.  Details are at the end of this email!
